A Merry Thank You Christmas Message...And A Sharpie Discovery

Hi guys, I have been reflecting a lot this month and just resolved on quickly doing a blogpost to say a
HUGE thank you
to everyone who has sent me love, of any kind, this year.
I really, truly, appreciate all of you who follow and support me whether I am churning out art like a mad woman, or equally when I'm sharing some deeper rooted feelings that go along with being artistically inclined. I feel so much support happens in our wonderful community and I just want to protect it, appreciate it, add to it and help it thrive in 2014. While I was in this gushy mood I thought I’d do a vlogpost, thinking it would be easier to convey via talking, but that didn’t really happen. I don’t think I actually said anything I was meaning to but hey, time constraints put on me never do me any favours, hence why I always hated examinations lol (and due to being rushed I can't add annotations that may be would fill in some of the gaps from my brain that my mouth left out lol sorry). I did however include some arty time just as a reward in case you choose to watch this rambly mess, including a new Sharpie technique discovery…of sorts lol

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, see you on the other side of Christmas
Happy Holidays To All

  1. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well. Your time of giving to others is so admirable and I'm sure you receive so much back in return. You are such a good sweet person, Jennie, and we need more people like you in our world. I know I have a learned a lot from you in a few short months when I stumbled upon your site in August of 2013 approx. one month after receiving a liver transplant. I had never tried journaling before nor painted a lot but set out to make the recycled cereal box art/photo album for my organ donors family. I wanted to make it simple so they could add family photos or write comments about their loved one. All I know about the special person who gave me a second chance at life is that she was 29 and left behind a mother and sister. The book was sent to them last week and I wrote them a thank you letter asking them to write to me if they feel comfortable. I hope I hear from them and learn more about my special guardian angel. I will let you know if I do hear from them. Thank you for teaching me how to make the book so I could send them a special gift from my heart VIA a heart from a girl who lives across the ocean from me. You are very special, Jennie and I hope you have a wonderful Holiday Season surrounded by all the loved ones in your life! (((BIG HUGs)))

  9. If you drip rubbing alcohol from a dropper over sharpie you can achieve this same spreading effect and it will move the ink pigment by pigment… I discovered it quite accidentally while making my own alcohol inks and found that while it wasn't so great on the first project it happened with, I've enjoyed making it happen ever since. The more absorbent the paper (water color paper LOVES to spread whereas notebook paper not so much) the cooler the effect. I haven't tried hairspray! :) You have just inspired me to do more playing! Thank you, Jenny, for being an easily recommended teacher and life-coach and artist. I am never afraid to tell someone new to art journaling to come and look at your incredibly gorgeous body of work… I know they will all love you and learn much from you! :)

  19. Merry Christmas to you too! =)
About the sharpie technique, I just wanted to let you know that it works with other hairsprays and it also has an interesting effect when you use a sharpie on a page that is covered with acrylics and gesso.
Thanks for all you do and happy holidays! =D

  25. The Sharpie Trick reminds me of something we do at school (Im a Science Technician). Its basically Chromatography of Pens, which demonstrates separation of the ink into its constituent colours. Like you found with the hairspray its just a case of finding the right solvent for the ink youre using. I look forward to seeing more cool stuff in 2014 from your studio, but Im also glad youre more relaxed about not posting if you dont feel its right. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Xx
